…Excessive heat warning remains in effect until 4 am Friday…

* Temps and heat index…temperatures will only fall off into the upper 70s overnight. Heat index values will only gradually fall through the 90s through late evening. Temperatures on Thursday will once again rise into the 90s…with heat index values reaching 105 to 115 degrees in many areas again by afternoon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

Take extra precautions…if you work or spend time outside. When possible…reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work…the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency…call 9 1 1.

An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely. Drink plenty of fluids…stay in an air-conditioned room…stay out of the sun…and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 10:10 AM June 20, 2011

…Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory remains in effect for eastern Ford…Grundy…southwestern will…northern Livingston…La Salle…Iroquois…southern Kendall andKankakee counties until 1230 PM CDT…

At 1005 am CDT…National Weather Service Doppler radar estimated up to 3.25 inches of rain has fallen across parts of La Salle County from around Ottawa extending southwest to Tonica. Rainfall observers reported 3.05 inches of rain at Ottawa and 2.44 inches 2 miles north of Ottawa. Local law enforcement officials reported water greater than 6 inches deep along IL Route 72 four miles southwest of Ottawa.

Elsewhere Doppler radar estimates up to 2.5 inches of rain has fallen across parts of Kendall… Kankakee… and Iroquois counties this morning.

Thunderstorms with occasionally heavy rainfall will continue across the advisory area late this morning with additional rainfall from a quarter to half inch possible in some locations. Any rainfall will further aggravating the ponding of water on roadways and flooding of low lying areas especially along creeks and streams. Additional thunderstorms are then expected to redevelop later this afternoon and continue through this evening.

Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause minor flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Bourbonnais…Bradley…Claytonville…Dwight…Kankakee…La
Salle…Manteno…Marseilles…Mendota…Momence…Morris…
Oglesby…Ottawa…Paxton…Peru…Piper City…Seneca…Serena…
Stockland…Streator…Watseka…Aroma Park…Ashkum…Braceville…
Braidwood…Buckley…Chebanse…Cissna Park…Clifton and Coal City.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

Do not underestimate the power of flood waters. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can quickly carry away your vehicle.

Report flooding to the nearest law enforcement agency so that they may take appropriate action to close flooded roadways. They will relay your report to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
