The Champaign Consortium is a not-for-profit corporation chartered by the State of Illinois in 1974 to provide training and employment services to the economically disadvantaged and other persons who face serious barriers to employment and who live in Champaign, Ford, Iroquois and Piatt Counties. Since 1974, local elected officials of Champaign, Ford, Iroquois and Piatt Counties linked through the Champaign Consortium, have worked hand-in-hand with business, labor and education leaders to promote business activity, develop jobs and conduct training programs.
The Champaign Consortium, through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), strives to prepare eligible youth, adults, and dislocated workers for entry/re-entry into the labor force. Job training and job search assistance services have been developed to help meet the needs of area business and industry as well as job seekers.
The Workforce Development Board has members representing small and large businesses, labor, education, service organizations and large and small government agencies. Working with the Consortium staff, these leaders establish the direction of activities and programs in the four counties, review proposed training projects and propose funds to worthwhile training-for-employment opportunities.
