The Veterans Assistance Commission of Iroquois County is an inter-governmental agency that assists honorably discharged veterans, widows/widowers, and dependents residing within Iroquois County who qualify for and need assistance. The Commission was formed by each of the sixteen (16) veterans organizations of Iroquois County and are jointly responsible for overseeing the Veterans Commission, as allowed under the Illinois compiled statutes, Military Veterans Act, 330 ILCS ACT 45, (01-045) and ILCS 5/5-2006.
The Commission provides assistance in obtaining benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs or any other government agency that has a program to benefit veterans.
The Commission staff will assist in the preparation of forms or other documents which relate to benefits available, answer questions about the benefits applied for or receiving, provide follow up services on pending claims, and assist those whose benefits have been discontinued.
The Commission will provide information on Educational Benefits, G. I. Home Loans, Disability Compensation, Pensions, Burial, DVA Hospitalization, Lost Discharges, and other entitlements administered by the DVA.
The Commission will assist in providing transportation assistance, to and from Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, Clinics, Hospitals, and other locations related to Veterans Services.
The Commission will provide “Emergency Financial Assistance” to qualified veterans and their families when the need has been demonstrated and the Commission has verified that the need does exist.
