UPDATE: The rising Iroquois River flood waters in Watseka have slowed considerably…recent Friday evening readings show the river rising just another 3 inches in the next 12 hours. Sugar Creek in Watseka has dropped 1 inch per hour since about 4 pm Friday.
Watseka Public Works Director Marvin DeLahr monitors the river and creek levels. DeLahhr reports after both levels climbed 8.5 inches overnight Thursday, the River rose just 4.75 inches during a 12-hour period Friday.
At 6:20 pm Friday, DeLahr said the Iroquois River rise had slowed to just a .25 inch an hour. Sugar Creek is dropping and is well below flood stage. The river level is expected to rise just three more inches before 7 am Saturday.
The likely crest of 21.8 is well below the record 2008 crests of 25.5 and 26 feet.
