6TH-GRADE GIRL DIES FROM FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS --- UPDATE

– GRIEF COUNSELORS AVAILABLE AT P-B-L JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL –

> The death of a 6th grade student in Ford County has grief counselors available for students and staff at the Paxton-Buckley-Loda Junior High School. Natalie Johnson died an unexpected death Tuesday at Carle Hospital in Urbana. She had suffered flu-like symptoms, but the cause of her death was not immediately known. Ford-Iroquois Public Health officials confirm the girl had been ill with a fever. An autopsy report from the Champaign County Coroner’s office won’t be available for a few days.

PBL School Superintendent Cliff McClure says he’s in contact with Ford-Iroquois Public Health officials. he said the school district is “very viligent” in its effort to limit any spread of diseases within the four district buildings. Preventive medications have also been made available to Natalie’s family and others who may have had contact with the girl.

> A funeral service for Natalie Johnson has been arranged by the Baier Family Funeral Services in Paxton. A service is set for 11 am Saturday at the Evangelical Covenent Church in Paxton. Visitation is Friday 4-8 pm at the Baier Family Funeral Services on Pells Street in Paxton.
