Fish kill under investigation…. Health officials issue warning….
The ILLINOIS EPA is investigating a fish kill along a stretch of Spring Creek in Iroquois County. EPA spokesperson Maggie Carson said reps of a corporation known as R3E reported a hog manure basin leaked last week (July 20th), west of Del Rey. The matter, she said, is under investigation. The Department of Natural Resources Monday was looking at about a 20-mile stretch along Spring Creek where fish appeared to be affected.
* Due to the recent contamination of Spring Creek, Doug Corbett, Public Health Administrator of the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department, has issued a health warning to residents living within the following coordinates: North and East of 1100 North and 400 East and within one quarter mile of Spring Creek. All residents with private well systems living within these coordinates should test their private well systems. Test kits are available by contacting the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department.
